Students of Social Work Department, Karachi University, visited ZEST Project

The NGO World (TNW) has successfully implemented a model (ZEST) of Non-Formal Basic Education at slums areas of Karachi. On 31st Oct 2018, a group of 10 students of final year of Social Work Department (Karachi University) under the leadership of Dr. Shahid (HOD Social Work Department) visited ZEST schools at Pasban chowk, Ibrahim Haidri, Karachi. The purpose of the visit was to get in-depth learning experience from teachers, students and social workers of TNW.

The group was led by Dr. Shahid (HOD Social Work Department KU). Mr. Zafar Iqbal (Chairman The NGO World) welcomed the delegation and gave orientation to students about TNW and its programs. Mr. Sardar Shakeel shared the details of ZEST project. He shared the process of opening a ZEST Centre, community engagement, identification and selection of teachers and students. He also shared the challenges faced by the TNW team.

Dr. Shahid also delivered a motivational session to teachers and appreciated their work. He expressed his deepest appreciation to TNW team on doing such an amazing work in such remote and well-deserved area. He also interacted with students and asked many general questions regarding their education and future endeavors.

Students of KU also played games with ZEST students. They asked questions regarding their areas of interest and hurdles in getting an education, especially girls’ education. Students also expressed their feelings and paid thanks to ZEST Teachers and TNW to provide the educational facilities at doorsteps.

In the end, Dr. Shahid and students of KU shared their deepest thanks to TNW for providing such a wonderful opportunity to interact with teachers and students of this remote and vulnerable area. They got a chance to see the real scenario and had an idea of working and challenges in the field of social development. All students offered volunteer service for TNW.

Mr. Zafar Iqbal also thanked the social work department, especially Dr. Shahid for visiting ZEST schools.
