TNW COMMUNITY CENTRE ESTABLISHED AT PASBAN CHOWK, KORANGI KARACHI

KARACHI: In today’s world of science and technology, we need to even go beyond the necessary overhaul of the educational system until we reach the stage of literate society, said INGOLAM Programme Director Atiq-ur-Rehman Mirza today.

He was addressing the launching ceremony of the Community Centre established by TNW Foundation in Korangi’s Pasban Chowk area named TNWCC.

He said Community Centres worked as a potential institutional vehicle for the promotion of adult literacy and lifelong learning.

TNWCC is an institution within the community where society is directly involved in the development process through the three-fold typology of education, formal, non-formal and informal,” he said.

He said the TNW had introduced community learning centres concept as a solution to provide learning access to the community within their system.

“Through this concept, we could cover the learning needs of children and adults in the same institution, which is cost-effective,” he said.

He said the TNW was going to establish more community learning centres on a self-help basis to promote literacy skills and lifelong learning in the country.

“One of the key objectives is to empower backward and marginalized communities. The TNWCC will provide lifelong learning opportunities to the community members including adults, women, youth, and children. It will be a multi functional organisation used for basic and post-literacy, continuing education, skill training, saving and income generation activities,” he said.
