Dissemination Seminar of Action Research-Efficacy of Curriculum of Non-formal Basic Education.

28-06-2019, Directorate of Literacy and Non-formal Education, School Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, jointly with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Aga Khan University-Institute of Education Development (AKU IED) and THE NGO WORLD, launched an action research report at AKU-IED. The research comparative in nature and compared performance of learners and teachers of Accelerated Education Program and conventional non accelerated education programme in Non-Formal Basic Education setting. Total 16 centers, 8 for accelerated and 8 for non-accelerated were set up in slums areas of korangi (KARACHI) The centers were established and executed by THE NGO WORLD.
The results that compared baseline and end line revealed that both learners and teachers of Accelerated Education programme performed better than their counterparts of non-accelerated centers. These results have validated the efficacy of the accelerated curriculum and materials that is suitable for older age learners who missed their early years of schooling.
Dr. Dilshad Ashraf (AKU) presented the findings, and Ms. Chiho Ohashi (chief advisor, JICA) welcomed the guests and shared project details. Mr. Zafar Iqbal (Founder of THE NGO WORLD) briefed about the experiences of his organization on Accelerated Education Program, Secretary School Education and Literacy Department, Qazi Shahid Pervez, appreciated these efforts and said the Sindh Government is pleased with such efforts and have enhanced funds for non-formal Education.

Indus Resource Center (IRC), UNICEF, THE NGO WORLD, and AKU IED enlightened the participants with their views on NFE in Sindh. Officials of education and Literacy Departments PUNJAB, BALOCHISTAN, Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa, and Federal areas also participated in the event. Finally, it was concluded that the accelerated education should be scaled up and development partners should continue to support the literacy & NFE directorate with more research in this area.
